HEADFORM IMPACTOR

The pedestrian protection headform impactor was jointly developed by JASTI, JARI, and JAMA. It became part of the new pedestrian protection safety standards and was later approved by ISO.
It is a dummy component that simulates the human head and is used in pedestrian protection performance testing for vehicle certification tests, including NCAP programs in various countries.
The headform impactor is mainly launched against areas such as the vehicle hood or windshield. During impact, it measures acceleration values and HIC (Head Injury Criterion), which is used to assess the risk of head injury.
This enables evaluation of head injury risk in vehicle-to-pedestrian collisions.
In addition to automotive accident assessment, headform impactors are also used for safety evaluation of playground mats and other impact-absorbing surfaces in public facilities.
