Awards and Technical Recognition

56th Japan Automotive Engineers Awards

JASTI received the 56th Japan Automotive Engineers Awards in recognition of its technical contribution to the field of automotive engineering.Headform impactors that simulate the heads of children and adults are used in pedestrian head protection tests defined by ISO and Japanese technical standards / J-NCAP. These tests are intended to reduce pedestrian head injuries in traffic accidents involving pedestrians and vehicles.Although the specifications of headform impactors are defined in the test procedures, at the time there had been no headform impactor that fully satisfied these requirements.

Through steady and repeated experimental analysis, this development project succeeded for the first time in the world in creating a headform impactor that met the required technical standards. The headform impactor was adopted for pedestrian head protection testing in Japan. As a result, Japan became the first country in the world to implement this regulation in September 2005.Furthermore, this development also contributed to the advancement of safety technologies related to windshields and impact protection. Its social and technical contribution to improving pedestrian impact safety has been highly significant.
